The original stairs were supported by the deck. The original stairs suffered from severe rot and had to be replaced. 

The new stairs were placed on a dedicated new concrete footing because of the limited remaining lifespan of the repaired deck. This will enable replacement of the deck when necessary without having to demolish the stairs.

The deck planks and handrails were removed from the balcony, and the top of the balcony joists extended from the house were sanded, re-painted.

New deck planks were then installed to prevent rot. We extended the life of the deck by replacing bad joists and planks and re-painting.
